Another misnomer...the 'cold'

At the moment I have a cold...got it yesterday. I read a long time back...like 20 years ago...that colds are not actually caused by cold. A quick check of the internet confirmed this.  In the past I have told people this, and provided them with information to support this.  Yet they have fussed at me about everything from being outside at night to not being dressed warmly enough or (the biggest sin of all) having wet hair (look, I don't have the patience to use a hair dryer ok...and the heat annoys me).  Their arguments (even in the face of evidence and studies) have been based on anecdotal evidence ('but I get more colds in winter' - yes, true and this can be explained) or simply long-held belief (and people being what they are, are rarely interested in actually evaluating their long-held beliefs).  As they say, you have to fight fire with fire.  So, here is my anecdotal evidence to prove that colds are not caused by cold.  I first displayed symptoms on Wednesday.  The temperatures of the preceding 3 days were all over 41.  So let's call this 'proof'.  Now leave me alone.

Oh, and while I am on the topic of colds.  Stop whining about having 'the flu' people...pretty much every time you do, you actually just have a cold.  Perhaps it is worse than usual.  But still, it is not the flu.  The symptoms you describe don't even sound like the flu.  But you prefer to call it that rather than a 'cold' for extra sympathy and attention.  Stop it.  You make me want to punch you with your dramatics and self-importance.  Ok?!

  2. Hmm what do you mean, my Queen?

Nil, for my own happiness I am going to assume that you mean you agree with me :D Because I like affirmation :D

Chanz, me too...the last three colds I have had have been now (summer), in India (started in Goa where it was hot), and Thailand (ditto hot). So we are certainly both affirmed...and of course in very good company :D
